Sannkofamaan (Comic book Review)

Brief introduction to this amazingly wonderful comic book that I came across. It's called Sannkofamaan, a secret organization created by Dr. Afoakwa. This semi-secret organization is made up of para-humans with extraordinary abilities, trained and nurtured for the sake of justice in Africa. With the position of Dr. Afoakwa as a member of the AU musters more of his resources to developing this group.

This epic story starts with Dr. Daren, a physicist who majorly spent most of life in the United States, taking a flight back to Africa in search of justice and his friend, Kwezi, also a Sankofamaan. His first stop was Orin town where he showed us some of his para-humans abilities more like the white Zetsu from Naruto ability. He had used this ability to save the town and realizing the situation the community was facing had decided to stay a while and help them.....
Before going into the remaining parts of this epic story and all its saga, I want to commend Akinseye Brown the creator of this comic mover and Kazeem for his colorist techniques... These guys have done well to put up something of this nature. The story had me swinging in confusion before until I re-read the book again. How so? I had one story line in mind and to my surprise I got some shocking suspense in between especially where I got to find out that Dr. D aren't friend was also a Sankofamaan. Could he be the one causing the turmoil in Africa since he's gone missing for quite a while now that somebody actually felt his absence and saw the need to fetch him back. But still my guesses could be wrong since something else redirected the storyline. Bell oil? The nemesis he had to contend with? They had hired a demon which was at first literal until it became practical when Dr. Daren was attacked by a demon monstrosity alone in the forest. Every page culminated in intrigue and fantasia that could really jog my imaginations.

There were some instances where the drawings almost went out of line but the story kept me reading and it will also keep you reading. Too much effect? Not at all. This epic story of Sannkofamaan actually has the potential of surpassing some already growing African comics like EXO, Guardian Prime, Kwezi and the rest. It's a must read comic and you can do the readings @ Sannkofamaan
Below are some preview of the book

15 MOST POWERFUL VILLIANS IN THE GALAXY (REBLOG)

The battle between heroes and villains in the world today is real, and what the fictional characters display on screen or on the pages of our favorite comic books is usually a reflection of what is happening in the real world. The above battle is not about to end anytime soon, and we can only keep hoping that the good will keep prevailing over evil every time. Real-life superheroes are not only the police officers, the doctors, or the rescue workers, but they include ordinary citizens who step up to help people in need of assistance and to speak up against oppression and corruption.

Fictional superheroes seem to have all the fun fighting crime owing to their superhuman abilities and the fact that they follow a script that usually has a happy conclusion. However, the fictional villains do not go down easy since there are some who are so powerful that they can take down a group superheroes single-handedly.

The rise of very powerful superheroes has also led to the rise of very powerful villains, and this makes the battle between good and evil very complicated. Some villains are so powerful because of their wit, physical strength, unique abilities, disturbed past, or sheer size, that it would send shivers down your spine to think of your favorite superhero facing them alone. The action that results from fights involving any of these villains is worth watching because we all know that these badass villains can get the better of the very best heroes. Here are the 15 most powerful Marvel villains that we all love to fear:

15. The Enchantress

Via pinterest.com

The Enchantress is an Asgardian, meaning that she has god-like speed, strength, and stamina. Although she does not like to engage in physical battles, this manipulative creature has the ability to use magic and illusions to get the better of any of her opponents. One kiss from this sorceress can make any man become her slave for a period, the same kiss that cures her injuries fast. This supervillain is not one for Thor to fight with his hammer, an aspect that makes her even more dangerous. Her elusiveness combined with her power makes her one of the most threatening Marvel foes out there.

14. Bullseye

Via comicvine.com

Bullseye is one of the most dangerous supervillains that the Marvel superheroes have to face, because he can use anything as a weapon. Although he does not possess any superpowers, his expert martial arts skills and talent in throwing projectiles with pinpoint accuracy make him a very lethal killing machine. Bullseye has killed people using playing cards, a toothpick, by spitting out his tooth, and in many other unique and creative ways, talents that make him the ideal killer to hire. His unpredictable nature and lethal accuracy make him dangerous beyond belief.

13. MODOK
Add caption

The designers of MODOK wanted him to become a super intelligent being that would be used for computing purposes, which is why his original name was MODOC (Mental Organism Designed Only for Computing). However, he grew so ambitious and greedy for power that he killed his masters and became the supervillain we know MODOK (Mental Organism Designed Only For Killing). His most powerful weapon is his superior intelligence, computer-like memory, the ability to control groups of people, and the ability to generate a force field.

12. Lady Deathstrike

Via comicvine.com

It will never be polite to hit a lady, unless if that lady’s name is Deathstrike. This supervillain has been a problem that the X-Men have had to face on numerous occasions, with Wolverine crossing paths with her on multiple times. Lady Deathstrike is very dangerous since, in addition to her prowess in numerous Asian martial arts, she has superhuman speed, strength, agility, and stamina. Her ten indestructible claws are some of her most intimidating weapons, as they’re made out of adamantium, the same material that was bonded to wolverine’s skeleton and claws.

11. Green Goblin

Via comicvine.com

Green Goblin was not always a bad person because underneath that mask is a small but athletic man named Norman Osborne. However, Osborne he has managed to keep Spider-Man on his toes with his insane criminal deeds, killing Peter Parker’s girlfriend Gwen Stacy being one of the worst things he’s done. The Green Goblin might not have any special superpowers, but he’s rich, brilliant, mentally unstable and knows how to use his technologically advanced gadgets to fight off Spider-Man.

10. Sabertooth

Via wallpaperno.com

Sabretooth is Wolverine’s oldest nemeses. While Wolverine has always tried to suppress his vicious animal side, Sabretooth embraces his primal brutality. This beast is meaner and bigger than Wolverine and he has no morals, qualities that make him very dangerous. Sabretooth has killed many people either for his own pleasure or as a hired assassin, and his superhuman abilities and fighting skills make killing a walk in the park for him. He shares the same advanced healing capabilities as Wolverine, making him virtually immortal and all the more threatening.

9. Kingpin

Via all-comic.com

Kingpin is one of the most powerful crime lords in the world, and he controls all forms of criminal activity wherever it is. He has been Spider-Man’s problem for a while, though the whole of the Marvel Universe knows about him. What makes him so dangerous is his immense wealth which he uses to control the entire criminal underworld of New York City. The assassins and thugs on his payroll make him virtually untouchable and a very big threat to anyone who tries to step on his toes. Although he does not have superpowers, he does have incredible strength and has superb fighting skills.

8. Doctor Doom

Via spinoff.comicbookresources.com

Dr. Doom is an arrogant and power-hungry supervillain, who believes that the world is his to rule. One advantage he has over his opponents is his super intellect, although Dr. Reed Richards has a way of matching up to his brilliance. His intelligence allows him to prepare for anything that his opponents throw at him, though his pride and arrogance are over the moon. Dr. Doom can steal and then replicate the superpowers that other beings have, he has mystical capabilities, and he can project energy, summon demons, and do many other evil things.
7. Red Skull

Via marvel.wikia.com

Red Skull is Captain America’s enemy, whose mission is to establish his race as the leaders of the world. Despite not having any superpowers like many other villains, Red Skull is a genius and possesses a very high level of intelligence. He is also very skilled in martial arts and is a trained marksman with excellent gun handling abilities and the use of explosives. Red Skull has great strength and is full of malice. He has no form of goodness in him and his life’s goal is to rule the world, a desire that makes it difficult for superheroes to stop him.

6. Apocalypse

Via comicvine.com

Apocalypse is a mutant who believes that he should rule the world, a belief that has transformed him into a very powerful villain. Apocalypse considers the human race to be weak and unfit to survive and is therefore out to push Darwin’s theory of survival of the fittest. Apocalypse has no problem killing people as well as mutants, since he is one of the oldest mutants and has survived very many years and wars against humanity. His superhuman powers include his ability to shape shift and swap bodies as well as psionic abilities. Apocalypse is, therefore, a force to reckon with for any superhero.

5. Ultron

Via comicbook.com

Ultron is one of the worst supervillains that the Avengers have ever had to deal with. This artificial intelligence creature has amazing superhuman abilities and has deadly offensive weapons, which send very powerful opponents straight into a coma. Ultron’s genius intellect, his ability to self-repair, his creative intelligence, and his indestructible core and amour made of adamantium make him unyielding and the worst villain to go up against. Originally, Ultron was the creation of Hank Pym, or Ant-Man. In The Avengers: Age of Ultron, he is created by Tony Stark who loses control of his A.I. experiment.
4. Magneto

Via es.marvel.wikia.com

Magneto is a mutant who grew up abused and looked down on, having lived through the Holocaust, but now has the power to destroy even the strongest human being without using his hands. Magneto is one of the most powerful mutants thanks to his special ability to manipulate ferrous and non-ferrous elements. Magneto wants the mutants to rule over the humans because he feels mutant are superior in every way. Some of his additional powers include the ability to rearrange matter, to levitate, to create a force field and to turn invisible, among many others. His abilities make him the biggest problem that the X-Men have had to face, and one of the worst villains of all time.

3. Galactus

Via marvel.wikia.com

There are villains, and then there are intergalactic supervillains whose scale of operations is far beyond the world’s ability to prevent. Galactus is one such supervillain who literally eats planets to survive. Galactus can do anything imaginable, and when he sets his eyes on a planet, there is little any superhero can do to stop him from executing his plans to destroy it and drain it of its powers. However, the Fantastic Four have managed to drive him away after Galactus set his sights on Earth.

2. Loki

Via pinterest.com

Loki is the most mischievous and lying villains of all. He will seldom engage in combat, preferring to hide behind his lies and mischief to make things go his way. Loki has no real alliances because he is able to gain the trust of villains and superheroes alike and make them pay for trusting him through his deceit. Loki has managed to trick Thor numerous times, and has even convinced Thor’s father to exile his beloved son. Loki’s desires are to sit on Asgard’s throne, a role that is destined for Thor. The dangerous thing about this trickster’s ambitions is that he will do anything it takes to get what he wants. Even scarier is that he possesses god-like powers, although he prefers to use manipulation to get what he wants.

1. Thanos

Via multiversitycomics.com

Of all villains in the Marvel Universe, none is quite as excited about killing as Thanos. His body count is ridiculously high. He has killed over half of all living beings in the universe, a feat that no other supervillain can boast of matching. Thanos is a member of the Titanian Eternals, a superhuman race that has deadly superpowers. Thanos has unmatched durability, stamina, and strength, he can project and absorb cosmic energy, he can manipulate matter, and he is capable of telepathy and telekinesis. To make him even more dangerous, Thanos is a genius in all fields of science and technology that are far beyond the science on Earth. Thanos is simply the worst villain to go up against.

KWEZI (A NEW AFRICAN HERO)

So the the internet and comic fans community especially in South Africa is buzzing about the full coloured south African published action packed #1 super hero comic book title KWEZI. So we went in search of it, read #1 and now we bring you a review.Click to read

Set on a contemporary South African backdrop, Kwezi a 19 year old boy that discovers he has superpowers, and so the journey towards his purpose begins.

THE STORY

Issue 1 begins with an armed robbery scene. The bad guys where having their way as the police where totally out gunned and “out sepd”. Just as they are about to say good bye and cash in on their 5 Million “Rand” heist they are suddenly struck by a fast moving object that breezes in from the skies. The robbers are rendered useless in their van which is now reduced to a compressed can.

It doesn’t take long before our hero reveals himself with much hubris and excitement, taking pictures of the robbery scene but not like you would see peter parker do in the Marvel comics. This time our young hero KWEZI takes picture while the whole neighborhood watches. No Masks nothing. He uploads his picture on twitter, just in time for the police to get to him and are about to bring him in with the bad guys. After a little banter with the cops, KWEZI disappears into the skies leaving the chief police officer wondering what had just happended and what this kid was all about. And he wasn’t the only one. The media fed on the story and KWEZI was all over the news. The first issue end s with KWEZI chilling at home on a call with his “hommie” about what fun he pulled the other then and the he is interrupted by a voice from out side. KWEZI steps out and find a culturally dressed and riding on a horse and promising to show him his destinty.

LIKES

A good read for a ten page comic book. Lets start with the art. The art was awesome and even a comic fans will be intrigued by the line art depicted in this piece. The anatomy, perspective and positioning of panels where just on point. Surely the 28 year old Loyiso Mkize who is the illustrator and creator of this piece, had a plan and was aiming at giving a “movie” feel for his comic. The art however reminds you of the Super strikas Comic especially the hairstyle “Skeem Sam” who is head honcho of the armed robbery gang. On a whole the art was slamming.

The colours also was on point. CLYDE BEECH did a good job with setting a bright tone for the book which will warm up to both adults and youngling as well. The book seems to be aimed at kids and they definitely met that objective.

The general graphics on this piece also sold the book and the lettering where well done and well positioned on each panel. The free poster at the centre of the comic also did well to create an impression that something big was coming for those who had no prior knowledge of the book. VIWE MFAKU definitely did a good job on this one

DISLIKES

The story…..was brief and straight to the point and some what just superficial. The book focused so much on the art and colours but very little was done in the script department. One would expect that a first issue comic like this would do well to establish the characters, at least the our main protagonist who seems to float around through the ten page piece. Who is he, what does he do. How come no one seems toi know his name until now even though he is a celebrity on social media. Why where the police at a loss to who he was and so me other questions that roam through the minds of the readers. Perharps one would believe that the writer chose to create a form of suspense so that fans can go on to pick up the #2 but yet some little info could have been dropped as to who this KWEZI guy is. So much questions unanswered. Perharps more pages in the next issue would do well.

CONCLUSION

Well KWEZI #1 is a good read. It packs the fun that a comic freak would enjoy and the realism a non comic person would love as well. It’s a fun comic that has great potentials and is sure to strike a chord with may especially those who live in urban cities in Africa. The comic once again rides on the premise of what will a young African kid do if he finds himself with super powers. The team on KWEZI is just perfect and they should stay together. But we ask that more should be done to strengthen the story and give the fans more to read in terms of depth of characters and story. This is definitely a good story and would be worth your moneys worth even though its free and can be read on the KWEZI SITE or on ISSUU.
