AKIMBO #1 CHAPTER 4: SHADE AND AKIMBO

In the Ademola’s residence, Akimbola junior is still hiding that night and Shade comes out of the room calling on his name “Junior! Junior?!”
“Hmm?!” she mutters and walks briskly into the sitting room. She looks at the pendulum clock ticking above the television set and it was 10.00 am.
She turns around the sitting room and sighting a particular sofa settee, she smiled and turns on the TV set.
She sits on the sofa settee and says aloud, not really aloud, but to herself and maybe a close by person. “The time has tock 10 o'clock and …I remember correctly, when I…was young and I normally watched movies this late at night. Let’s see if they’ll have any new film on the show segment today.”
Luckily, God had answered Akimbola Junior’s prayers and Shade had fallen into an unsuspecting trap which initially was not part of what he had planned, at least.
But unfortunately, Shade sits comfortably and eyes the sofa she was sitting on side ways, as if suspecting something, and she smiles and continues watching the soul captivating movie been relayed on TV.
It suddenly was a perfect time to strike but,
“Akimbola junior,” Shade calls out, still sitting and watching the movie, “I know you’re hiding behind me, why don’t you just come out? Besides, I ‘m not going to hurt you anymore, moreover this film……… is too……… much” she says.
“How…...” Akimbola mutters coming out from behind the sofa settee Shade was sitting on   “…did…you…know …. Know… that ….. I ….. I was hiding behind this chair?” Akimbola asks in surprise or rather in a stammering surprise.
Shade turns and looks at the young man with a smile and gestures him to take a seat beside her.
‘How?...’  ‘Are you?....’  ‘why?' so many questions mumbling on his lips, many questions hanging down his tongue waiting desperately for an answer, as  he comes to take a seat by her right hand.
“I didn’t know, but I had reasons to be suspicious and your eager movement behind the chair made me realize at once that it was you” Shade says smiling and still concentrated on her movie.
        “How?”
“Well…” She mutters and turns to the young man who is so curious and stupidly anxious to hear more, “… It is my fifth lesson, to always watch my back even when I’m amongst friends and relatives, so as to prepare for the unexpected”. She says.
No wonder her gawky gaze at everybody during the party celebration.
“Do you belong to any society or …?” tiring to Shade, but interrupted
“I am a person who walks and works ways wonderfully well when words wander wherever wearing warring wraps where worse waves wandered” she says almost fluently, and wow she’s a poet, playing on words in such a descriptive language must mean; she is indeed one, and most surprisingly, very fast and fluent, not even missing a word.
A very difficult thing to imagine, what she meant by what she had said.
Akimbola junior is more than surprised and looks at Shade with an even more annoying smile.
“So, you know how to play on alliterating words especially with the “W” sound?” He asks
“Hmm? Giggle!” She mutters and giggles
        “Wow, this is interesting”
“You’ve really grown, junior” she said smiling at the young man whose smile was still flaring.
“Sis, can you explain what you mean by the ‘who work, walk, when’, whatever you were saying?” He still put up for a little one, although he couldn’t actually fix them up in statements and was not very fluent enough.
“And, I thought you’ve grown" She retorts and frowns, but, the grim still remains.
“Huh? I’ve grown up so big that you can’t even see me”
“Where?” Eyeing him from his head down since the young man was still growing and besides, doesn’t even understand what the growth Shade was referring to meant.
“Well…” looking closely, at himself, and not seeing anything to compare his theory, he frowns.
“You see, you’re still not yet matured”. Shade replies, since no reply had come from Akimbola Junior, at least, what she wanted to hear.
“Fine, you just tell me what you meant by your statement”
“What statement?” She asked, wanting him to be more specific.
“The previous statement”
“I can’t recall, will you help me?”
“Come on sister Shade, don’t play with my brain” He pleads and tries to beg her audience since she was now focused on the TV set.
“I sincerely don’t know what you’re ranting about, can you enlighten me?” with her left hand, wands her long curly hair backwards-which seemed to cause a little distraction, she says.
She looked even more beautiful when she does this, and most especially her lively grim.
He grunts abruptly and takes one of the feather pillow and uses it on Shade, at least, to get her divided attention.
“Hey ! what’s that for?” She asks
“I will hit you more and more until my question gets an answer” Preparing the pillow for yet another hit he says.
“What?!”
And again, Junior hits her with the pillow, but she was quick enough to block the hits and immediately snatches the pillow from him.
Akimbola Junior hurriedly gets another and prepares for another attack and says “Are you telling me or not”
He seemed to be pestering the young lady who was enjoying the interesting scene of the movie.
“Alright then” She says with a sigh of frustration and then turns to the young man now standing beside her, “…It means that I walk and work alone” She says in addition to her frustrating head shake.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, then, let me tell you a story” She says beckoning to the young man to come closer to have his seat.
“A story? What am I a kid?”
“You will find this story very antagonizing” She says still gesturing him to come have his seat.
“What now? Antago…what?”
“Antagonizing” She pronounced well so that the young man would get it.
“That would mean ‘opposing’” He retorted
“Just hear me out first” She says.
“Okay then I’m listening”
“This is the story…” She mutters and clears her throat as she begins with a flash back.
“It is the story of the lone Shante fighter. The one who solved a little of the mysteries behind corruption and criminal activities in the University of Ibadan”

Akimbo #1: Chapter 3- "The Gathering"

Akimbo #1 | Fore Runner
*           *           *           *           *           *        *        *        *        *        *        *
On another end, there is a gathering of the twelve, a summit of Demon Breeders, all dressed in black trench coats and bowler hats.
The twelve consisted of wealthy men and women who were aids of a deadly force arising from the Not-to-yet world and were both six each.
They consisted of; a red dragon, a blue flame, a diamond pearl, and an awkward cobra (known as the grey cobra), Oganta (the scorpion of the east), an Ngwere (the tailless lizard), an Usu (the nesting bat), an Azen (the sorceress of curiosity), a drooping python (from the Yoruba legend), the locket of greed, a skull of a thousand veil (from the old Efik legend and its bearer, awada asun) and an Ojusowa (a Benin wizard considered as the son of the western sea goddess, Adaze, he could also be referred to as Oboh).
The twelve gather around forming a large circle separated by accommodating spaces in between them.
Though they all had their different seals since they were from different works of life and different tribes, they had one common seal, a seal to name them all, a seal to bind them all, a seal to make them all strong.
The seal consisted of the twin bemuda’s triangle oppositely placed on each other and entwined by a circle which conceals the world in it and a “D” in between the triangles’ inner triangle of doom.
More so, around this great circle were crowns of stars, 12 in number, all woven with the circle around the cursed triangles.
This seal was on the floor they stood around, on the walls of the room, though there were other hidden seals behind the red background, and they bore the ultimate seal as bands either tied to the forehead or the arms or around the waist.
They all greet their master in accord.
“The tailless dog who wandered the lands of Adagag, we greet you. The fearsome leader of the Ajanagu forest, we greet you. The evil that stenches all good, we’ve come to meet you. The dread and horror of life, we’ve come to meet you. The oracle of treachery and corruption, the oracle of doom and destruction, your humble servants come to seek solitude. ” they all say in accord and their literary terms were obliterating.
“Heed my call, dear master, for it is I, Oganta who calls you” a male voice says.
“Heed my thoughts dear master, for it is I, Usu who calls you” a female voice calls.
“Heed my words, dear master, it is I, Azen who calls you” another female voice calls.
        “H-Heed m-my w-words, dear m-master, f-f-for it is I, Ngwere w-who c-c-calls-calls you” a male voice calls, stammering like mad.
“Heed my voice, dear dragon master, it is I, Awada, who calls you” a female voice called.
“Heed my call, dear master, na me, Ojusuwa dey call you” a male voice calls in the Nigerian pidgin English.
“Heed me call dear fraternizing pain of the afternoon burgee, it is I, red dragon who summons you” a female voice calls.
“Heed my talk, em e, dear bale, it isi mi eh, drooping python that is eh calling you o dadani” a male voice with a deep Yoruba accent calls.
“Heed my call great one, for it is I, blue flame who calls you” a female voice calls.
“Heed my voice dear pearl, for it is I, diamond pearl who calls you” another female calls.
“Heed my words o dear clamp of death, for it is I, Grey cobra who summons you.” A more matured male voice calls.
“What news do you have for me?” A deep voice echoes from nowhere.
“The news we bring forth is of immerse importance” A Feminine voice replies from the twelve.
        “Hmm……” the deep voice mutters
“As predicted, the fore runner is in the world, and, He has come of age” Another feminine voice says from the twelve.
“I see….” The deep voice says.
“Demon Lord, what do we do now?” A male voice replies in monotonic manner.
“Ha, Ha, Ha…..” bursting into an uproarious laughter which echoes all around the empty room colored red, “From today henceforth, you all will counter his powers and abilities, he must fail to create the way for the master who is to be born.” The deep voice says. “Do you get me demon cadets?!”
“Yes, Demon Lord” they all reply and immediately disappear.
This could mean something, what does the demon boss mean by the master and the forerunner? #

Akimbo #1: Chapter 2: Night Sweet Night

NIGHT SWEET NIGHT
It was getting late into the evening and the party had come to an end and the guests and invited personalities who parted with their various gifts, bade the family and other families present, farewell, and who in turn were bade farewell too, a warm one.

The house helps, from the maids, menservants down to the gardeners and gate keeper help together to put the house in order.

They (Mr. Ademola and Mrs. Ademola. And Akimbola) enter into their various rooms to have a long rest.

Shade on the other hand comes in hastily as if been pursued by somebody or maybe seen a ghost, but the fright was not there either, so what is the matter with Shade?

In Mr. Ademola and Mrs. Ademola’s room, the two couples lawfully wedded years ago, decide to rest after a long hectic day.

“Such a wonderful party and of course a nice speech” Mrs. Ademola compliments her husband who falls on the nicely spread bed and clings to the lovely feather pillow dearly.

“For sure, you trust me on that.”

“You should actually…take off those clothes” she suggests pointing angrily at his pretty attire.

“Alright, mom!” Mr. Ademola replies in humor and bursts into an uproarious laughter.

“What is the laughter about?” She asks now getting even angrier them before.

“Sorry, mom” it seemed to be fun and his mood increases more into a gaiety one.

“Hey! Change now from that…” pointing at him “…agbada of yours into your night clothes.”

“Yes, mom” His gaiety seems to increase even more.

“And do it now” she too seemed to be enjoying the orders she is giving. What audacity?!

Well, they say love is blind, love can really make one go AWOL (lost)

In this case, the man is the head of the family, but the woman is the commander in chief of the love existing between them.

In no short time they both have changed into their night clothing since it was actually 8.30 pm that evening.

Shade on the other hand, a fifteen year-old-looking lady, but, aging twenty in six month’s time, a student of medicine, already in her fifth year, was in her room pondering over what, only heaven knows.

The very brilliant and intelligent, strict and almost wicked, the very beautiful and attractive and almost tempting Shade already changes into her night gown which seemed to be fitted for her and it brought her lovely curves out for a sexy advertisement, immediately walks out of her room and rushes way up the staircase to Akimbola’s room.

She knocks and Akimbola tells her to come in when he realized that it was her.

“Happy Birthday, Junior” Shade compliment as she enters into the lovely room, with enough luxuries that suited his taste.

“Thank you big sis” He replies, lying on the bed thinking about what, who knows, maybe his father’s earlier on speech.

“Hey, Junior” she calls drawing closer to him and starring anxiously at Akimbola as if she would be able to read his thoughts.

Seeing that it was impossible to penetrate the stirring little mind of Akimbola, she snaps him off the long hard thought with a slight poke from her fist to his chin.

Akimbola startles himself up and looks at Shade. “Sis?”

“What’s wrong with you?”

“Nothing, sis”

“Nothing?” asks in surprise “You answered me the first time when I came in, and, in just a matter of seconds you were lost in thoughts, something must be wrong”

“I’ve told you big sis, nothing’s wrong with me” he answers getting up from the bed and sits comfortably as if he had just realized that he was still in the world.

“You can’t pretend for a long time”

“Nothing…is…wrong, huh!” with a smile Akimbola politely tells of his assurance that he was alright.

Shade smiles and puffing hard air from her nostrils she shakes her head, leaving her grim to stroll towards her right cheek_ she looked really hot.

“Big sis, what brings you into my humble abode?” trying to create a scene for humor.

Shade sighs in frustration and looks again and again into his eyes and giggles still smiling and nodding her head.

“Well..” she finally replies and shifting her hair which seemed to cause a little distraction to her view, backwards behind her ears, “…I was actually worried about you, and, since I would be…returning to school soon, I wanted to see how well you are doing”

“Sister Shade! I am fine, I can cope” he assures her.

“But you can’t, you still have lingering thoughts crossing the bridge of your mind setting it in a rocking chaos” she still persists on his worries.

“Fine then, you are always recognized as a persistent being…sighs!” he sighs in frustration “My worries are about achieving Father’s dream goal” he answered.

“You don’t have to worry about that now you still have a long life ahead of you.” She retorts, smiling and patting the young man’s head.

“Yes, that I know but, how am I going to start then? How? I don’t have any power or wealth, how then would my dream come true?” his eyes navigating his socket, he questions himself and asks Shade also.

“Uhm…not yet little brother, but, for now, just help the helpless, that’s father’s goal at least you get your own wealth soon”

“R-Really?” in curiosity he asks.

“Yes you will”

“Yes!” jumping in excitement

“If you study”

“No problem. What about the powers?”

“Powers…uhm…not yet”

“You mean, I’m going to have powers when I grow up? What powers am I going to get?” his deep curiosity alarms Shade who stares angrily but hides it with an annoying smile.

“Is it super powers…like-like strength, flight—no flights are for witches…” curiosity!

Shade becomes surprised with the words he mutters especially the ‘flights for witches’.

“…or maybe time traveling or…or, wait, no, superman?! Since he has almost all these qualities and abilities…” he rants continuously as Shade’s frustration leaves her face to her fist which she prepares angrily for a strike.

“…superman could defeat Dark side with all his might but he couldn’t, if I were him, I would’ve immediately ended Dark side and brought his body to Kandor and then restore absolute peace to the whole world…” his curious ranting increases even more.

“Junior?!” Shade calls quietly as the young man still continues and does not even hear his own name been called.

“No…General Dark side also had amazing abilities and he too could have ended superman…”

“Junior?” her voice increases than the previous one

“…he only had the intention of making him suffer a bit before killing him, hah! A man of steel, how can he die? Impossible…”

“Junior?!” her voice increases again as she stared angrily at the blabber mouth.

“…for a man of impenetrable abilities that seemed invulnerable, he can’t be killed, but he had a weakness, meteor rocks and not only just meteor rocks but green meteor rocks…”

“Junior?!” she begins to boil up to her chest.

“…although his own weakness had several effects on him but…” now interrupted with a spank.

“Will you just shut up?!” she orders in anger and then sighs in relief as the blabber mouth complies.

Shade looks at the funny young man and immediately hides her hot temper with a smile and pats the funny young man’s head.

“You will have not just any power, but the one you create and not super powers. Ah e! You watch a lot of comic movies and your senses just blocked out like that, huh? En eh!”

The young man seemed to be paying a little attention and Shade notices but she won’t stop as she is the type who would finish whatever she was doing before putting into considerations the happenings around her.

“You better wake up to reality kid” she says in frustration that Akimbola could barely see but cannot understand one bit.

“What do you mean by ‘create your own power’?” he asks in curiosity.

”Comic guy! You must have watched Bat man and you’ve seen that he is respected in the justice league” she explains in few unnecessary but vital details.

“That’s really true…” he mutters “Uhmm…” realizing something immediately “…wait you watch comics too, and you call me comic guy, COMIC SIS” he protests, realizing been called a comic guy earlier.

“Did you …just …call me … comic sis?” she asks angrily.

Noticing this, instead of running, Akimbola jumps out of bed and stands by the door. He rolls up his sleeves and tries protruding the muscles on his arms as a threat and a sign of readiness, But one would imagine why so close to the door?

"Come on sis, no matter how strong or angry you are, even if you were to be my opponent and you are very big, mighty or huge, I won’t run away and even if it seems that I am loosing I won’t easily give up” A courageous rant indeed

Eyes filled with clamor with these words, she feels happy, but, hides it as usual with an angry frown and then walks hurriedly towards him.

Akimbola noticing the height and size difference as the distance got closer and nearer runs out through the door. Ah, now we understand why he stayed by the door.

“Such a kid” Shade mutters and smiles

“I wish he’ll have that much guts and strong will to really pursue father’s goal, hmmm………a fine boy with great qualities a fore runner he is, what about the true master mother is carrying in her womb? Greatness has visited this family indeed” she mutters to herself.

“Me too, this is really getting interesting” another voice from within her says. #

Akimbola runs off into a nearby room which was closest to Shade’s room.

“Should I hide in here, she’ll find me that easily, damn where else should I try?” he asks himself, and off he goes to another room besides their parent’s room.

“Uhmm…this will be good, but, nah!” he thought to himself and runs yet again to another room.

What a large house with so many space to easily get lost and the eager boy cannot yet settle for a place to hide at least, not even one in mind.

He runs downstairs and tries the bar, but the smell from the varying wine made it impossible to hide there and again he is left with just one last choice.

Already, Shade’s footsteps could be heard approaching and he better decides on a hiding spot or else he’d be caught and who knows what Shade might do to him.

Off he enters into the large sitting room with a Pasonic L.G television and a double hit system with a triple Decker and all fashioned and arranged to suit the Ademola’s taste, especially the luxurious sofa couches and settee.

He turns around looking for a suitable place to hide and thinking of a plan to seal his hiding, he snaps his finger and smiles.

Akimbo #1: CHAPTER 1- FORE RUNNER

In the Ademola’s residence, one sunny afternoon, a party is been organized by Mr. and Mrs. Ademola in honor of their son’s tenth year anniversary. All friends, colleagues, relatives, business partners and neighbors are all invited. A big party indeed!

The lovely decorations from the flower vases to the beautiful and attractive coloration of the rolls of black-blue and red ribbons entwined in a considerate and flamboyant manner, thus sending out a message. A mystic coloration one would say.

The sofa settees all nicely and wonderfully arranged to suit the desired taste of the Ademolas. No wonder they are referred to as the Flashy and Jolly Family.

The sponge cake with the word “AKIMBOLA” in scripted on it with four good and nicely sugared decks of them lying above each other with four stands at end-point are nicely and spicily advertised.

Also, the lovely music, a Yoruba hip pop music done by Sunny Ade is been heard circulating the air and the surrounding premises.

All hands been on deck, as the maids and menservants go about serving the guests, and, even more so, their dressings added enough or more efficacy to the party celebration.

The four maids seemed enticingly beautiful and so did the embroidered gown, fitted to their soft curves both ways, running down from the shoulders, although they were short sleeved, and, down towards the knee covering but a little of the knee cap. Their dress had pleated flowery design at the ends of them; the hands and the knee level. They indeed looked cute or rather cutesy.

The two menservants also looked beautiful, especially with their receptive smile and the black trousers ironed to bring out the crease on it, and, matched with a white long sleeved shirt and a red bow-tie which seemed to match more on the black shoes.

Drinking and dancing commences inside the large sitting room, one really big enough for a party club, although, there were others sitting outside, participating practically on the meal been served and the drinks been given out. They only nod their heads here and there to the moving tune of the music.

As usual, a Yoruba celebration must portray a true Yoruba, and so everyone invited are dressed in various expensive Agbada made from either a Georgian wax or a Hollanders wax, but all with sumptuous taste_ for the men.

And for the women, their Boba and Wrapper seemed comingly and attractive, especially with a light colored Egele (head tie, a fashioned head tie) of varying color, as their taste desired.

The birthday celebration was almost turned to one of the cultural events in the Yoruba land such as the New Yam Festival amongst others.

But, the celebrant’s friends dresses their own way, a free style dressing, because, they believe they are in another age, an era of modern thoughts.

Well, the dancing continues and even the gate keeper is seen dancing and eating, drinking and laughing with the gardeners and the car drivers all from the individual houses in the Estates.

Inside, after so much dancing, that one’s waist will begin to crackle a huge fine man dressed in a greenish shiny lace agbada and a nice cap bent south-west that actually suits the lace agbada, comes out of the nearby door, swinging his clothes here and there in much ecstasy and behind him a woman dressed in the same lace material as boba and wrapper and a dark green gele like that of the man in front of her, and holding her wrapper as if it will fall soon.

They are Mr. and Mrs. Akimbola Segun Ademola.

The dancing is halted by their presence and it is time for him to address the people and this was accompanied with cheerful ovations here and there, almost tearing the ceilings off.

Mr. Akimbola Segun Ademola, a brusque and harpy man with a deep voice greets the people in the Yoruba tongue, “Ekabo o!” (meaning Welcome) “Eshey gon o!” (meaning thank you very much).

“I welcome you, once again, ekabo”

“E eh!” they all reply, showing signs of approval.

“I…” he continues “cannot express my wholesome thanks to you all for participating in this wonderful day of my life”, he smiles looking at the faces of the people who also cheerfully smiles back.

“Today…”, he says, raising his head up and searching happily for the sky through the roofed house he sighs showing relief, “…is a day that we must rejoice and be glad for God is good”.

The cheerful smile still goes on as they all are in so much curiosity and anxiety to know where he’s heading to, some still with their glass of wine, sipping and listening.

“You see, I am celebrating the birthday anniversary of my beloved son, Akimbola Segun Ademola Junior.” He says reflecting back on old memories that would make him bitter and sore, but he looked up and smiles as the people nod their head in agreement.

“I have been married for fiften good years and no son to show forth. Although, in all my riches and wealth, I couldn’t purchase a son, though of course I was actually satisfied with my wife…” he narrates turning to his wife who stands beside him, who also smiles back as she too could vividly picture his anticipation.

“…and daughter Shade whom you’ll soon see very soon.” He continues with a smile so curious and suspicious, “…I still had this strolling thoughts and running aches of not having a son to take up in my footsteps but I endured a little”. He looks up again and looks around and smiles. One would wonder ‘what’s up with the smile?’

“We tried our best, I mean my wife and I, tried so many times and they all led to compromising results as most of the pregnancies resulted in miscarriages, ten to be specific…” He pauses a little from the “E eh yah” from the people showing signs of pity and condolence.

“I so loved my wife, that I couldn’t let her go through all that much pain and anguish and suggested we stop and hope for the best.” He continues and then again pauses.

Taking pauses at such intervals was to help him defeat the tears but they still seem to linger on the surface of his eyeballs.

“Then, an angel disguised as a street beggar approached us on our way to the village and pleaded that we help him. We did so, although my wife did hesitate but I on the other hand, love giving and helping and wished that I had more than mere wealth to reach out to the world to save it from its present situation and peril” he becomes really sore and bitter, but really it was a sign of an uncontrolled happiness and ‘Aw!’ his tears rolls down his cheeks.

“Aw! E eh yah, ekpele o” the people say, consoling him a bit, for they knew him very much as a man who would never shed tears unless it was worth it.

“Well, to summarize the whole story, I gave and I was actually given in return,” he says in much humor swinging his lace agbada attire as the people laugh a bit and some just smile like _ ‘I knew that this man cannot shed tears easily, why the eh yah, ekpele o?’

“The beggar…” He then continues after gesturing everyone to calm down especially those with their irritating smiles as it seemed to him, “…then told me that I’ll have a son who’ll be very great and he would actualize my dreams and the other, which is presently inside my wife’s BIG tummy as we speak.” Making jest of his wife as the others laugh as it was actually funny especially with the way he says it and also looked fearfully at his side.

She pats her protruding stomach with one hand and the other still holding the lace as if it will fall soon. No wonder.

“These children are going to be great and they shall bring great things to the land and the world as a whole.” A man from the crowd, Mr. Ademola’s best friend says, raising his glass of blue berry wine up.

“Yes, and they shall be the forerunners” Another man in white agbada attire, says; one of Mr. Ademola’s rival who was also invited to the party.

At hearing this, Mr. Ademola is shocked and most especially, the ‘FORE RUNNERS’ and immediately flashes back to the encounter between the beggar and himself on a lonely road with bushy edges.

“You shall give birth to two children, one shall come to prepare the way for the other to bring greatness and hope to our corrupt world, one of them…a Forerunner and the other…a Master…” the beggar says with caution, attention somewhere else.

"Note, today, as they mark their tenth year anniversary, a beast will come out from the bush and place a mark on the child, this mark will fight the beast and the beast will try to devour the bearer. You must be watchful… you must be careful…” the beggar says and disappears into thin air with a smile and he too quickly recovers in a minute without even showing any sign of been lost in thoughts.

“Wait, wait and again…” the same man continues after halting the toast that was about commencing “…and you know, crisis here and there, they indeed, must be careful to receive a…” he says but immediately interrupted by Mr. Ademola who becomes suspicious and confused, but no matter what, will never show it.

“Let’s toast to whatever Adeyemi Richards’ toasting to in regards and in addition, he’s going to keep us here with his cute flattery words.” Everyone laughs at this because he actually was a comedian in the Mountain Estate.

“A toast to the ten year old boy who now comes out along with his sister Shade!” He says and turns towards the entrance from whence he first entered as the others laugh in merriment.

Akimbola and Shade comes in dressed in a nice long sleeved shirt and stripy blue trouser and a black shoe, and a boba and wrapper like that of the mother respectively.

“Cheers! Cheers!! Cheers!!!” they all cheer and watch Akimbola and Shade walk towards the cake.

The others, having known Mr. Ademola for a long time as someone who doesn’t waste time at all and one who would by all means turn anything into a funny one ignored Mr. Adeyemi’s humiliation.

Mr. Adeyemi smiles and eyes him sideways as if his gaze will put a hole in his head.

The two- Akimbola Junior and Shade goes forward to cut the cake, accompanied by their parents, friends, well-wishers, neighbors, they all take snap-shots with the celebrant respectively. The celebrant seemed to be awfully quiet than ever.

After much cheering from the cake cutting and photo shots, they all sing a happy birthday song for the celebrant raised by Shade’s lovely voice.

Shade, a twenty year old plus girl, looking young and pretty as a lady could be and also matured as a woman should be, gives the hearty cheers to her younger brother “Hip-Hip-Hip!”

“Hooray!” they all replied.

Mrs. Ademola, a fat and slightly buxom woman, nice and calm is her looks, but strict are her actions, a fair woman, both in complexion and attitude.

After a warm glass-to-glass jam, the Disc Jockey (DJ) continues and hits more Yoruba beats with the volume almost deafening.

In the midst of the crowd, Akimbola walks to a group of boys standing and dancing beside the bar and they were his school mates, and amongst them were his classmates.

He mingles with them for a while.

Mr. Adeyemi sits and gazes at the direction of Akimbola Junior and stares at Shade who assists her mother and at the same time cautious, and also looking at the child Mrs. Ademola was carrying in her womb as if he could see it.

Mr. Ademola notices this and joins him on the soft leather settee with a glass of red wine and tries engaging the bored man in a discussion to draw away his attention from his mysterious gaze.

“Hey!” Mr. Ademola calls out politely, like a friend would do.

“Hum?” Mr. Adeyemi mutters.

“What’s up?”

“Nothing much Ade, nothing”

“Come on, the party is getting more and more interesting, why not participate in… the dancing, huh?”

“Uhmm…no thanks, I’m comfortable” he smiles and gazes at Akimbola Junior.

“You know, Akimbola is going to be great”

“Indeed” he smiles still gazing.

“Em…” clears his throat, “How ‘bout your son, how’s he doing?”

“Alright!” Still smiling and gazing.

Mr. Ademola becomes more anxious and tries to read his thoughts but couldn’t. He looks suspicious though, but he cannot be trusted as he was a business rival.

Mr. Adeyemi then snaps out of his unpleasant gawking and turns to his rival and smiles nodding his head.

“Why the smile and nodding?” out of curiosity Mr. Ademola asks

“You do really have a wonderful son, Ade” he finally replies well

“Of course, sure we thank God.”

“You know, he really possesses some characteristic of you and is sure going to be great”

“Yes, and he’s going to achieve even more than what I have achieved.” Mr. Ademola says smiling and also sipping his wine.

“You, though are my rival, but that is strictly business, but here you are as dear to me as a friend could be" Mr. Adeyemi says and smile

“Oh you know what they say.”

“Mm-hmm”

“You are still full of surprises even for a man your age” Mr. Ademola says .

“Those are flattery words, for I am always short of surprises”

“Ha, ha, ha” Mr. Adomola laughs “You must be joking Adeyemi Richards, ha ha ha!”

“You are never serious…” Mr. Adeyemi giggles and looks at him trying to share in his laughter.”

“I can barely recall how many contracts that I have lost to you, rival Adeyemi Richards”

“Hey! Just some few contracts, but you’ve had most of them” Mr. Adeyemi retorts

“Yes, but your few are greater than my many”

“Don’t be ridiculous” Mr. Adeyemi retorts again and smiles.

On the other hand, Shade and her mother sits on one of the white sofa settee and although she sits relaxed and with a glass of non-alcoholic wine, she stares at everybody present one at a time as her eyes could catch

“Why the gawking, Shade?” Noticing her eye movement Mrs. Ademola asks.

Although Shade was lost in deep thoughts as she gawked but she could hear when someone was talking to her, just the same as her father.

She sighs and finally speaks up “Nothing much, but they all seem strange… and…. Nothing more”

“Are you sure, they only look strange, I can read through your looks as a mother who raised you up for a long time, so tell me what exactly is wrong with your gaze”.

Shade similes and turns to her mother, and then giggles.

“Why the giggle?”

“Mom, you sure know everything, why asking me?”

“I want to know how curious your words would be since your looks are warranted guesses of your harboring thoughts”

“You sure do know how to speak in riddles, thank God; I have much sense in me to fish out the AKIMBOLA FORERUNNER meaning of your riddles.” Shade flatters and similes

“You may want to escape my question. Today, you may be able to but, there will come another day and these questions will be waiting for you with the others I’ve asked you ever since you entered the university.”

“Mom, my reasons are mine alone, and my problems are mine to solve alone” Shade says

“No you are wrong your problems are for your families to share in both our nuclear and extended terrain”.

“That I know, but me trying to solve my own problems makes me stronger and better” The ever polite Shade says.

“Well, I leave you to find the suspicious person in our midst.” Mrs. Ademola says and Pat her six months pregnancy – tends to her stomach.

With this, Shade is shocked and looks at her and tries to figure out what she meant, though it was as if her thoughts were an open book to be read about.

Akimbo #1 (PROLOGUE)

Akimbo is a pure comedy-fiction with lots of intrigue and information plus lots of entertainment. Any resemblance to persons, living or dead, or from any storyline is strictly coincidental, the same goes for names, items and places.

Akimbola Segun Ademola Senior had searched the whole world for a son and had tried all means necessary to get a child but to no avail. Even when his wife got pregnant, miscarriages were the end results. They finally had a child, a girl by the name Shade and based on common African mentality a son heir is required to continue his father’s legacy and succeed him. This was the case with the Ademolas. They had a daughter and they still needed a son.

One fateful day, something extraordinary happened and they became living testimonies to the great deeds of the Hand, the Almighty.

Akimbo Junior is born after ten years of been son barren and even at that ten years later, Mrs. Ademola is pregnant yet again even in her age. It was as though the children were meant to be ten years spaced apart.

This wonderful and blissful family lived in one of the five Mage Estates; the Mountain Estate. Here lived six families with several characteristics and abilities.

They all lived happily and most of all loved themselves as though they were brothers and sisters. There could be quarrels and slight misunderstandings, but they were always making up for the lapses.

The five Mage Estates; River Estate, Mountain Estate, Sky Estate, Fire Estate and the Luminous Estate were homes for real men with talents and money making ideas. Those who inhabited these dwelling places were in other words, extremely rich, but they were different from any ordinary rich men, and they were in everything rich. They were rich in talents, in caring for their fellow man and even for the poor; that was in the first place the essence for setting up the Estates by their Predecessors.

From the word ‘mage’ which means one who uses magic, the Estates was named, for these men’s predecessors were indeed men of magic, men who possessed the greatest of all magic, magic that could do only good and will become good when possessed by a wrong hand. This magic so magnificent, magic that blooms within the skies of the night as its stars, this magic that creates destiny’s pathway to life, this magic was LOVE.

They had love for each other and they cared about the community in which they dwelt and tried to contribute their own quota to helping the poor and the needy.

They could possibly do this on their own with or without the Estates but there was a force fighting them from doing good deeds. They were everywhere, both in the common man and even in the government. They were high ranking men and women who would stop at nothing than to see the world crumble before their very own eyes. They were 12 in number and they had one master who is referred to as the Demon Lord.

He is feared amidst the Feudal demons of hell and the devil’s personal assistant, so the rumor goes. But what was he actually?

The demon Lord had both powers and skills. He had knowledge unfathomable and these were his advantage against the world as a whole. His political power made him embezzle funds though they meant nothing to him and squander them so that the people would remain in suffering.

The Federal Government and those below him try to combat this threat to their reign but to no avail. Prayers alone will not save the economy; it needs someone to challenge this demon head on.

There in that time was left a prophecy to rid the world off the Demon Lord’s claws, a prophecy to liberate the world.

The prophecy speaks of two children, one a forerunner and the other a master. They both will possess the real magic to combat the Demon Lord’s threat. They both will have power and knowledge but they had to work for them and earn them themselves or they’ll fail.

Akimbo grows up here in the Estate amidst rich folks and yet he is destined for greatness. What other greatness could one possibly acquire again aside this life of luxury? He is the next in line to the Ademolas and he will succeed his father in death, what money would he possibly need?

Well, he needed more than the money since they do not know if the forerunner had yet been born. The Estate was fully rich in everything and this richness is what Akimbo must learn in order to prepare the way for the master.

With the characters and the wisdom and knowledge he gets from the likes of Brian Dalton, Shade Ademola, Imoni Dalton and a whole lot of them, he is yet ready to fulfil this prophecy.

But unknown to the Child bearer, the demon Lord knows well of the prophecy and does everything possible to stop it from coming to fulfilment. The 12 come into play here and since they were merely cadets he wishes to test the forerunner’s abilities.

It just gets interesting as you read on and get the comedy fantasia mixing up with this epic and fiction. This is the future we are about to experience and no one can stop it unless the child is born.
